Duet Improvisation Dance Workshop
with K.J. Holmes and Karen Nelson
K.J. and Karen, drawing from their duet work "Swim/Sea/No See"
(a 1991-93 dance toured in US and internationally, and reprising to perform at CI@50 celebrations this summer 2022)
shed light on the compositional thresholds and horizons of Contact Improvisation.
Workshopping this duet score with deep warm-up and resonation within our somatic moment, the training of CI allows for surprise, like how the sea is always surprising us with taste, movement, view, and gives us something to dive into. For example: mashing timings, replicating unisons, replaying snapshots, and flashing forward into our imagined “nexts.”
